Finally made it out with the boat to catch some Panfish

Got the trolling motor fixed at Rockey's Tackle in Orillia last Wednesday and took it to Couchiching before bringing it home. Finally had time to head out yesterday about 4 and fished until about 9. I had a few rods for #Pike but didn't bother making any casts with them. I found the #Pumpkinseed and #Bluegill mostly in one area and the #Crappie, #Rockbass, and #Perch in a few other areas. The water temp was 67 to 72 degrees and everything was caught on small plastics with a dab of scent on them all. I was the only boat on the lake and there were a few people fishing from the dock part of the time I was there.

Practice night for the Senior Youth Fishing League group

15 kids showed up to the Fishing Friendzy Foundation's Youth Fishing League on Thursday night 6-8, we handed out the bags, showed them how to tie a knot and started to fish, there were lots of #Panfish Caught And Released to be caught on another day. Small plastics and worms caught most of the fish. The weather was perfect and no bugs around.

Running A Casting Booth at the Perth Children's Water Festival Today

I was there about 11:20 to set up the Fishing Friendzy Casting area for the kids to try and there were a lot of new families lining up that had never tried fishing or casting before. I heard there was about 500 kids that showed up to try most of the events that were being offered. I started at 1:00 and it was over at 4:00pm but I didn't stop until closer to 4:30 as there were still families lined up to try there luck at reeling in a plastic fish. The rain quit before I arrived and the wind dried up the grass with a bit of sun trying to peak through the clouds, the temperature was perfect, warm enough but not too hot. The kids had a lot of FUN and a few Parents and Grand Parents said they'd be taking up fishing again or for the 1st time and that's always a good thing to hear. Lots of compliments from parents and some of the organizers.

The Panfish Are Starting To Head Shallow

May 19 2026 We arrived at about 5:40 just after a pretty good down pour to set up and to hand out the Fishing Friendzy packages, we had a short talk, I showed them a knot that I use and set up a couple of the rods for panfish and we started to fish. It started out slow casting around different areas before we started catching a sunfish then a couple crappie then more crappie and a few small perch and a couple nicer rock bass. We started to see some small baitfish and sunfish that I assume the others were coming in to eat. It wasn't too bad of a start and I'm glad we didn't cancel as the weather did straighten out before we actually arrived just like the Weather Network map showed it should, can you image they were right lol. There are some spots left if anyone wants to join the score cards start next week for the Junior League so you didn't really miss much just the practice night.

Water was pretty clean and flowing nicely but I didn't notice any fish while walking along the bank, I haven't seen any in the video but one of these times I find them.

Silver Lake is changing a bit

 The ditch was cleaned out last year and the beaver dam was removed to help lower the lake level and get it back to normal levels, this is the shoreline that has been taken back with the lowering level.

This is an AWESOME video and shows how we are more of the problem than anyone thought, one more reason to love catch and release on Bowfin in my area.

Panfish Trips are a lot of FUN and they usually keep you busy

I've had people ask if I do shorter days as their kids don't have much experience fishing and might not be able to handle a normal day so here you go, lets get them out and have some FUN getting their lines tight.

Family Fishing Day on Amherst Island was on May 9 2026 organized by Explore Loyalist

Fishing Friendzy Foundation Casting Exhibit was invited to join a variety of other outdoor activities including games, face painting, live music, a cash BBQ as well as fishing from the dock behind the Neilson Store and Cultural Centre at 5220 Front Road Stella on Amherst Island. Thanx to the Nut Island Club, DM Boat Sales and he Napanee and District Rod and Gun Club for helping support the event by sponsoring the activities. It was well run and a lot of FUN to be involved with running the Fishing Friendzy casting rea and talking to all the participants. It was a little cool while we were setting up in the wind and shade but it warmed up nice and some people had to take a layer off before noon as the sun was out and felt really nice. Pretty new at flying a drone but it’s not too bad.

Retirement is coming soon and so is a New Adventure

Over the years I've taken 100's and maybe 1,000's of Youth/Kids out on Fishing, Canoeing and taught a lot of them Archery as well with the Teeswater Kids Archery Club, helped to bring back the Teeswater Scouting Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and even Ventures for a couple years, helped with the B.A.S.S. Casting Kids events, Junior Club and travelled with the Junior BASS team to 4 events with other Members and Parents, I was on the Canadian Bass Anglers Federation 2009 Team Ontario and fished Lake Champlain. I started the LHFC School Hatchery Program and grew it 50 school's with the help of our Sister Clubs and other fishing groups from 2010-2025 and know I'm helping out with Fishing Friendzy Foundation Events and running 2 Youth Fishing Leagues so far. If you have someone that wants to learn or just get out on a Nitro Z6 bass boat to try their luck at fishing lets make it happen.

I had the Kincardine Beavers Leader reach out for a Hatchery Tour

All the yearly Rainbow Trout had been released but these 110,000 Rainbow Trout eggs are looking good and the Brown Trout aren't doing too bad either.

Chesley Lake Youth Fishing League starting on July 5th

Everything is ready to go and now sign up's are open, be one of the luck ones that signup before we reach 15 Juniors 5 to 10 yrs old  and 15 Seniors 11 to 16 yrs old. We will be meeting on the north shore by the Chesley Lake Camp/Beach area. There will be shoreline fishing for 5 days with the last 4 days going towards a contest with points added up for each species over the minimum length in each species with their season open, all catch and release to be caught another day.

Home and Lifestyle Show was a good day with lots of people asking about the  #FishingFriendzyFoundation #YouthFishingLeague ages Juniors 5 - 10 Seniors 11 - 16 there is one at #SilverLakeTentAndTrailerPark at Kinloss or Teeswater Concrete Ponds or the Wawanosh Lake one near Lucknow. There were also lots of people interested in booking a 3 or6 hours Fishing trip on Silver Lake or other local lakes with #SouthBruceGuideService and there will be a 3 hour fishing trip given away through the Home And Lifestyle Show.
