Kawartha Lakes Early Bass Opener was a successful Weekend again

Saturday and Sunday on the water with Darcy and Jenna and family catching Panfish, Rockbass. Smallies, Largies and Pike to make for a perfect family fishing trip. You have to like the early bass season opener in Zone 17 on the Kawarthas, first take care of the kids then hit up a few spots for Bass and Pike then back to fishing with the kids again. Big Changes in the Boat This Week

Dropped the boat off Monday at @AnglingOutfitters to get some undated, back down Wednesday to pick it up and they did a great job, then it was back to Silver Lake to try for some Panfish and map a bunch of the lake out, everything worked great except to to people in the boat there will be a bit of a learning curve, about half the lake mapped and Pumpkinseed, Rockbass, Perch, Bluegill and Crappie all caught and release and took a bit of time to check out the new Active Target and it showed the Crappie baits being used and ended a few fish came up to check out the baits and then it stated to rain so we did a bit more mapping and called it quits. I'm heading out shortly to get the rest of the lake mapped and play more with the A.T. to see how it works in Forward and Perspective modes, early Bass season starts on Saturday in Zone 17.

The First Teeswater FunFest for the Kids was a huge success

My sister took a few pictures of her Great Grand Daughter with me passing on the tradition from one generation to another. I set up at 11:00 started casting about 12:00 had to stop for a washroom break at 5:00 and grabbed a slice of 🍕 and a 🌭 from the food booth beside our exhibit and when I sat down to eat they got the rods back out again and started casting lol. Lots of FUN had by all that were there. Soap Box Derby, Foam Party, Human Fuse Ball, Face Painting all free for the kids and a Baseball Tournament for the Adults, Food, Live Music, Beer Gardens and a Beautiful Day.

I switched to this Drop Shot Knot a few winters ago for Panfish and then added to Bass as well.

Lots of people use this knot for Drop Shotting as well

You never know when you'll need a loop knot hanging off your line

Teeswater FunFest Set Up Before starting

Just after getting set up I took a couple pictures knowing I wouldn't have time later, set up at 11 and started casting before 1 and ended about 7:30pm. I'm not sure how many kids went through but I shut it down shortly after 5 to go to the washroom and grab a slice of pizza and a hot dog lol and the booth was right beside me so I wasn't long. After getting back the kids said can we get the rods again and I sat down and said sure but I'm eating this before I get back up lol. It was a lot of FUN and the kids had a blast and the parents made sure they acknowledged it and the kids Thanked me when they were done.

Chesley Lake Youth Fishing League is Open for Kids to Sign Up

This is getting closer Youth Fishing League on Chesley Lake, shore fishing starting Jul 5 2026 for 5 consecutive Sunday, Juniors 5-10yrs old 12:30-2:30 and Seniors 11-16 3:30-5:30, great way to meet other kids that like fishing too, learn new techniques, tie knots and have a little competition for weeks 2 to 5 with a chance to compete for a nice prize. Check out the Youth Fishing League Community Facebook Group and follow along and ask questions to help learn about fishing. If you have someone in both age groups we can always try and get them at the same time if room allows.
