School Salmon/Trout Hatchery Program - Setting The Hook Gets Kids Hooked On Fishing

The day started with me stopping at the school to pick up their 41 #ChinookSalmon from the #ClasssroomHatchery in Arran-Elderslie Elementary School in Tara and then I met the bus full of 2 classes to release their #Salmonat the Southampton boat launch before heading to the #LakeHuronFishingClub port Elgin #ChinookSalmonHatcheryfor a tour and talk about the 110,000 Chinook Salmon in 2 tanks and Rainbow Trout in 1 of the other tanks before heading over to the town pond to have lunch and to fish for some Speckle/Brook Trout before heading back to school. There were a bunch of parent volunteers that drove and helped out with the whole day and there were some nice #BrookTrout or #SpeckleTrout depending on what you call them. The day started out cold but by the time we were #Fishing there were some of the students in t-shirts, the sun was out and the trees around protected the whole area from the wind, once everyone was fishing I went and got a container of food to let the kids feed the fish in the pond before they headed out. There was a father and son they were there celebrating the son's birthday, he caught about 4 before they ran out of worms and the dad mentioned they were thinking of going to get more worms and coming back, I offered to give them a #HatcheryTour before they left, they were happy to see the inside and find out the number of fish we raise, where we raise them, how it works and how much it costs to raise them as well as where they're released. #Conservation #Environment #FishingLife #TakeAKidFishing #KeepCanadaFishing #TakeAFamilyFishing #CatchAndRelease #BlackflyLures #XZoneLures #TheRodGlove #CanadianFishingNetwork #FishingFriendzyFoundation #SettingTheHook #KidsHookedOnFishing #BrucePower
